Portland based Sculptor and Artist Duncan has a background in Stonemasonry where he trained using traditional stone carving tools. He worked in the industry for a time, alongside working on his own projects and taking on various commissions including headstones and figurative carving.
Duncan uses Portland stone in his carvings and utilises the traditional methods of Stonemasonry that he was trained in.
He also paints from life, working mainly in watercolour and occasionally oils. He favours the alla prima technique for its directness and ability to capture the true essence and atmosphere of a place or a moment in time.
Duncan's subject matter can come in all forms. The sea and coastal scenes being a common theme throughout.
‘I look for light, shape, tone and colour when selecting subject matter. These are important elements in any painting, as is good design’ - Duncan Park
