Sadie Aucott

Sadie Aucott

Inspired by the dedication and amazing work of conservationists and wildlife photographers, Devon based artist Sadie uses her stunning wire art to foster an emotional connection between the viewer and the wildlife subject matter. She does this to encourage the viewer to see a ‘living being’, ‘a friend’, to ‘feel their soul’ and to acknowledge that wildlife are sentient beings, who deserve to be respected too.

Having spent many years studying Art and Photography, Sadie started to experiment with different mediums after having to put her desire to work towards an Art degree on hold due to family circumstances.

A simple picture of a sandcastle made using wire sparked the ‘light bulb’ moment that she could draw with wire.

Over a period of time Sadie developed a system of working with dark grey and silver fine gauge florists binding wire in order to create monochrome 2D images which combined her love of drawing and animals.

Depending on the atmospheric conditions surrounding the piece, some parts of the wire take on a more 'sepia' tone or patina as the wire oxidises. Each completed piece is finally mounted on a bare white canvas.

Sadie was announced as the winner of the Innovation award at the IN:SIGHT 2018 Exhibition held at Castle Fine Art, Manchester. She has been a finalist in many different art competitions, most notably in the  David Shepherd’s Wildlife Foundation - Wildlife Artist of the Year - for 2022 and 2023.
