Peter was born in Herefordshire, and there under the Welsh border which hugs the Black Mountains and the above average rainful guarantees the green agricultural landscape. It was this landscape that inspired Peter to become an artist.
Painting for Peter was not just about recording what is seen, it for him was also a distillation of emotions and ideas which result in some personal choices as to marks that are or not made, every mark made is intentional.
In his later works it is emotions that Peter has tried to capture. His paintings are not meant to be wholly figurative and representational, but rather to portray these elements in the landscape that can appear almost surreal. A twisted tree stump that has taken on a half human form, or a intresting shaped stone. Change either their size , position or scale on the lanscape and combine with other natural metaphorical forms and you alter the feel of the landscape.
